Replace("'", "''") & "'" Else SQL = SQL & " OR tb_entity.entry='" & strline.
Replace("'", "''") & "'" End If End If Also if i use that, then upon loading of the page, it executes the SELECT command w/c gets all the data from the sql db. user either input strings or upload a text file with strings to parse. page would read the strings from either text box or text file then do a SELECT FROM from the sql db what i would like is upon loading, it wouldn't query the sql db.
So, I guess I should have know the answer to why the following does not work.
Basically, the scenario I have is that I have a foreign key column in my Grid View that I want to show as a Drop Down List of values.
In order to get to the Edit Item Template, you need to first create a Template Field column.
Provider Name %>"> <asp: Template Field Header Text="state" Sort Expression="state"> < Edit Item Template> <asp: Drop Down List ID="Drop Down List1" runat="server" Data Source ID="Sql Distinct DS" Data Text Field="state" Data Value Field="state" Selected Value='<%# Bind("state") %>' > </asp: Drop Down List></Edit Item Template> < Item Template> <asp: Label ID="Label2" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("state") %>'></asp: Label> </Item Template> </asp: Template Field> Now run the website and click on edit link of any row in the Grid View and you will see that the state field now is a dropdownlist and populated withh all distinct states. You can choose a different state and click on Update link and the new state will be saved into the database.
I have a gridview with template field on column 2 and 4. i've also used msgbox to output all column four's control ID and it's returning nothing.
By default the gridview provides the fields in the boundfield format.
The boundfields are fileds that have fixed GUI type and an associated datafield.
If Not strline Is Nothing Then If SQL = "" Then SQL = "SELECT tb_entity.
